Long time, no post!
Tuesday, 4 May 2010
Hello! It’s been a few months since I made a post in this blog. I just haven’t been able to get round to updating it for a while.
There hasn’t been anything big happening really. Just all the normal stuff and that.

Back to Ubuntu!
Saturday, 16 January 2010
Well, I finally re-conquered Windows, and now I’m back to using Ubuntu
It was mainly an issue of getting my wireless dongle to work, but thanks to NDISwrapper, I got there. I feel pretty proud to be using Ubuntu again; I have missed loads on it since my laptop borked six months ago.
I had tried compiling the drivers from source. It became a complete mess, so I decided to reinstall Ubuntu so that I could try using NDISwrapper to get my wireless to work. And it did.
I hated using Windows. It was extremely slow, despite my PC being a 3.40GHz Pentium 4, with 2GB of RAM. Ubuntu seems to be a lot faster, and a lot cleaner as well.
Well, I better go now before I get carried away!

Back to school
Sunday, 10 January 2010
Well, the Christmas holidays are over and done with! I’m back at school (which is still pretty boring at the moment).
I got some pretty interesting presents, including CyberClean putty (http://www.firebox.com/product/2243/Cyber-Clean) which works a treat – there’s now a lot less crap under the keycaps.
How was your Christmas? Was it good? Was it bad? Or was it just an average Christmas? Post a comment!
Love, light and peace…

Well, it’s Christmas!
Thursday, 17 December 2009
Hey everyone!
Haven’t posted for a while hehe, but things are still going cool. I’m done with the preliminary examinations. Now I’m off on my winter break.
Nothing much has changed, really. Just doing the odds and sods I normally do… Two weeks ago, I went trainspotting with my friend Callum Allan, who goes to my school. He’s a nice chap, to be honest. His stepbrother’s annoying though
Hopefully I’ll get enough money to buy a second-hand computer this Christmas; it’s going to be a Linux-powered terminal (hehe!).
Well, I better stop writing here, in case I get a “tl;dr” from someone
Love, light and peace

A pretty hectic day
Tuesday, 24 November 2009
Hey everyone!
Just had a rather hectic day today, with my English prelims on almost all day today. I think I did pretty well though; I thought at first I was going to fail!
But I got stuck into it, and it went by pretty smoothly.
Apart fromĀ that, my day has been pretty hectic but I was happy when I got home. I’m still trying to get prepared for the switch back to Ubuntu, but I’ve been having trouble getting my wireless drivers compiled and installed, so it could be a while yet. But I will get there in the end
I hope all you guys are getting on well.
Love, light and peace.

Prelim time…
Monday, 16 November 2009
Hey everyone!
It’s prelim time at my school, yet again…
For some reason they seem to have moved it forward. Usually they have the prelims in early January, but I don’t know why they are doing them in November now – all schools across Scotland are doing this.
Anyhow, I sat my German listening prelim. It went alright (I hope ;/), and I have another prelim on the same subject tomorrow (17 November 2009). It’s stressful for many people, and I’m no exception. Homework, revision, more homework blah blah blah…
Aside from that, everything’s been cool. Went away to Newcastle to do some train spotting there on the 24th of October; it was pretty good

Mono: Is it really worth it?
Friday, 12 June 2009
One evening, I was browsing on the Ubuntu Forums, when I came across a thread entitled “If mono is wrong should I use another distro?” (If you are wondering why I haven’t provided a link, the thread was jailed)
Mono rants p*ss me off quite a lot, and this particular thread led to me posting a complaint in the Resolution Center. The text is as follows:
Hello.
I just want to take my time to say that I am getting sick of those Mono threads. They all seem to think that because Novell have an agreement with Microsoft, Mono isn’t FOSS/should not be part of Linux, etc etc etc.
I don’t see anything wrong with having an implementation of the .NET Framework in Linux. I really don’t see any point on making those stupid rants, in fact, I don’t think these Mono rants should be allowed on UbuntuForums.
I know that Windows can be tacky for most people, but negative threads about Mono?! I don’t think so! The .NET Framework has worked for many people, so I can’t see why they don’t want it in Linux. Linux can’t be entirely free and open source software, there has to be some proprietary software in it as well. Take Xandros for example:
Although based on Debian GNU/Linux, Xandros has lots of proprietary software in it as well, in fact, I would be willing to PAY for a Linux Distro if I had the money.
Regards;
The Toxic Mite
I seriously don’t understand what is wrong with Mono. As I described in my post to the Reslution Center on UF, Microsoft .NET has worked well for nearly everyone that’s used a computer. I want to know why those people are suddenly turning against proprietary software; it seems as though there’s going to be a wave of “FOSS fascists” sooner or later. I would be willing to pay for the software I need.
These b******s need to learn that Linux can’t be pure free and open source software – Take Xandros for example. Xandros has quite a few proprietary apps, so no wonder they need a little bit of money to keep it going.
